Downtown Discoveries: Turning the Page
Tucked away on Palouse St, a literary haven quietly thrives in Downtown Wenatchee – Ye Olde Bookshoppe. AnaMaree Ordway, the visionary owner, embarked on her journey as the leader of this literary sanctuary back in June 2015, a decision catalyzed by destiny itself. Her serendipitous encounter with Ye Olde Bookshoppe was like a chapter straight out of a novel. After spotting an intriguing ad on Facebook, her and her husband ventured to the store the very next morning. The moment she stepped inside, fate seemed to beckon her forward. Her child’s impromptu nap right in front of her late great-great-grandfathers favorite book felt like a sign, solidifying her aspiration to breathe life into the bookstore. With the scent of well-loved pages in the air, AnaMaree embraced her lifelong dream of owning a bookstore.
The essence of Ye Olde Bookshoppe lies not only in its carefully curated selection, but also in its profound connection to the local literary landscape. This bookstore stands as a patron of local authors, showcasing their literary endeavors and hosting frequent book signings. The rhythmic heartbeat of the community resonates through the store’s participation in First Fridays, where art and culture converge.
Yet, every narrative has its share of challenges. Slightly off the path of Wenatchee Ave, Ye Olde sometimes slips from the forefront of the town’s bustling consciousness. The onset of the pandemic further cast a shadow of uncertainty, with misconceptions about its operational status. However, like a protagonist facing adversity, AnaMaree and her team persevered, determined to come out victorious.
What sets Ye Olde apart is not only its vast collection of over 100,000 books, but also its commitment to sustainability. The bookstore revitalizes preloved books and crafting “junk journals” that transform discarded materials into functional art.
AnaMaree’s journey intertwines with the spirit of Downtown Wenatchee – a vibrant tapestry of businesses that collaborate and thrive together. From forging alliances with neighboring businesses like the Red Barn Coffee Co. to witnessing her child’s growth within a close-knit community, AnaMaree cherishes the camaraderie that defines her Downtown Experience.
As Ye Olde Bookshoppe ventures into the future, AnaMaree wishes to illuminate the store’s hidden dimensions. Beyond its cozy exterior lies a universe of literary treasures, waiting to be explored both in-person and through online orders. With this seamless blend of accessibility and support for local commerce, AnaMaree invites all to partake in the timeless magic of Ye Olde Bookshoppe – where every page turned is a step into a world of wonder.
