On March 1, 1910, the deadliest avalanche in North American history swept down the snowy Cascades, burying two trains and killing 96 people. 

Experience the Wellington Disaster Tour like never before—in partnership with Wenatchee River Institute—with an engaging journey led by Scott Cheek, local railroad historian and museum trainmaster. On October 3, join our trip to the historic Wellington site, where you’ll uncover the gripping story of the Great Northern Railway Company. Along the way, we’ll stop at several fascinating sites between Leavenworth and Stevens Pass, each steeped in the railway’s rich history. 

The tour will begin at the Tumwater Canyon Red Bridge. Participants may drive their own vehicles in the caravan. All participants will receive a detailed itinerary by email, complete with a map for easy navigation. On October 2, Wellington disaster historian Randy Dasho of Port Orchard, WA will speak about the Great Northern Railroad and the Wellington Disaster of 1910 at 6:30 p.m.
